Both Danzy Senna in the "Color of Love" and John A. Vaughn in "The Difference Between Pity and Empathy" discuss how the author feels at an uncomfortable situation. The authors both reach similar conclusions through very different methods. Neither character relates to well to the person they are dealing with and both are unhappy by the situation. and rude to the maid who had only broken a vase. Senna was not able to keep inside how angry she felt about the way her grandmother treats others who are not the same rank as her. On the other hand, when Dr. Vaughn's first patient acted in a mean and rude way to him, he did his best not to show how upset he felt while continuing with his examination. The patient made the doctor feel uncomfortable by telling him that he was gay and of his sexual experiences (148). The patient's reason for trying to make the doctor upset was because he was angry that he was dying so soon. So he wanted to make the doctor feel as badly as he felt. Both authors reacted differently. Senna could not keep quiet about how she felt, while the doctor tried his best not to show his true feelings.
