the drought most of the small ones weren't attainable. Meaning, the finches had to eat what nature provided for them¾large seeds that aren't part of their usual diets. Larger seeds mean that finches with bigger and stronger beaks were able to survive much better. Others with smaller weak beaks died out. So through the process of natural selection, larger-beaked finches were able to adapt to their environment, reproduce, and survive.

Deer mice can be found in the sandy soils of Nebraska. They were originally found through North America with a dark coat mainly used as a camouflage to stay hidden in the dark soil. As the deer mice now reside in the sandy soils of Nebraska, it isn't helpful to have a dark coat. Within about a few thousand years the mice moved to its new location, their dark coat turned into a lighter one. The gene for the lighter coat was said to have just came about 4 000 years ago which is pretty fast when it comes to evolution.

because of populations that have been separated due to resource needs. If the separation lasts for a very long time, a new but similar species would evolve within the separated population.

One example of branching evolution would be that we or hominids didn't exactly evolve from the common chimpanzee. We didn't even branch off from the chimpanzee, instead we actually evolved from a common ancestor similar to an ape's ancestor. This eventually resulted into two separate lines of descents. One where apes, gorillas, and chimps have been evolved and the other hominids.
