44 years, many media outlets including Disney were portraying Russia and its citizens as monster that only want bloodshed and violence. This type of fear arousal is arguably necessary during times of war when citizens need to be united through a common goal (enemy) so it may protect itself. In times of peace however this tactic is not conducive to unity and positive national relations.
In politics, especially during a campaign race we see far too much of the fallacy known as “straw man”. This fallacy describes one who attacks a person’s character rather then the actual argument at hand. This is a perfect example where fallacies should not be permissible (at least to the extent in which they are used). Wasting not only time but also an immense amount of money slandering the character of your opponent does not lend credence to your view but rather creates a negative lens in which your constituents view you.
