up on the street and not in college trying to get a job is usually problems at home. The teenager experiences one, possible all three types of violence or abuse: physical, sexual, or mental. This abuse can start at any age anywhere from birth up through adulthood. Children who are abused at a young age according to the textbook are likely to view the world as hostile, have suspicion or even fear of the outside world. A girl at the age of 15 gives a really good insight into why sexual abuse made her turn to the streets.
"Things were not going very well at home. After dad died, mom
just kept drinking and was always going out with idiots. One
of her boyfriends raped me and that's when I left home the
first time… (5)."

How is this girl going to feel? She can not just go up to her mom and say "guess what your boyfriend did to me?" It sounds like that her mom had a drinking problem. If she told her mom this she would probably say "stop making up stories about my boyfriends." ...
