Foreign 'Aid'?


By definition, according to Compton's Encyclopedia, foreign aid is
when money, goods, and services are given by one nation to benefit another
nation. While that definition is vague and open to interpretation, nowhere
does aid mean to corrupt, hinder development, cause havoc, feed and supply
terrorists, or spawn wars. Unfortunately, that is what foreign aid has
become, a game in which everyone looses. The US government is spending too
much money on foreign aid just so it can be misused by governments, leaders,
and terrorists.
Corruption has been and is one of the biggest problems with foreign
aid. It has struck many times, every time, weakening both their economy and

by buying military support.
The US alone has spent over twenty billion dollars in the past
twenty years. Between surplus tax dollars and the money we would save from
not paying foreign aid, we could pay back the national debt in a very short
time. We can accomplish this exponentially, by other countries paying back
their debt to us and our money from taxes we can have our debt paid by the
year 2000(1). Yet our government is set on sending our hard earned tax
dollars to other countries to be used for the construction of a dictator's
palace. Besides the national debt, if the money was given back to the
people, then we could abolish the poverty and slums of our once great
country.
What has foreign aid done for us? Not much, unless giving
terrorists funds to buy weapons and use them against us and other countries
