Handle with Care

The book I chose is Handle with Care, by Jodi Picoult.This book is a fiction book about a woman named Charlotte O’keefe and Sean O’keefe, the couple wants a child and has been trying for a year, and right before she was going to try other procedures to help conceive, she became pregnant with Willow. The moment Charlotte found out about her pregnancy she was overwhelmed with excitement. On her 18 week ultrasound the transducer showed a short femur and a very unusual clear photograph of the brain. the child. In this case Charlotte is a Catholic and that was not an option. Although a lifetime of sorrow and pain for the child she began questioning whether or not it was the right choice. Because she had wanted so bad to have another child it was not an option when thought at first. Not knowing what trials and tribulations the future held she brought Willow into the world. One of the issues in this book was standard of care. Because Piper was Charlotte was her best friend she should have told her at the beginning she needed to see another OB/GYN, so that emotions and ethics would not present an issue. When Piper receives the letter that says Charlotte suing Piper for medical malpractice Piper is hurt, as would any friend.
