This is a quote from Harriet Tubman before she decided to run from slavery. Harriet Tubman is a well known hero in America for her achievements. She devoted time, she took risks and helped many. So what was her greatest achievement? Not only did she help slaves escape from the harsh conditions they lived in through the Underground Railroad but she was also a civil war scout, a nurse, and a caregiver. Harriet's greatest achievement was when she was the conductor of the Underground Railroad. This was a way to help fugitive slaves find their way to freedom. Harriet made 8 to 19 dangerous trips in order to rescue slaves and made it possible for them to escape (Doc B.) Some of these missions had included drugging the babies to prevent crying in the late night (Doc B.) She helped around 40 captive slaves escape from their harsh conditions. Many of her trips ended up in the north around Canada and Philadelphia (Doc A.) These rescue missions were mostly made in the night and on foot.
