It can be extremely difficult to persuade readers with an article that focuses on a major conflicting issue in today’s society such as healthcare, especially since there are so many sides to what healthcare actually is; Tina Rosenberg in her article for the New York Times titled “Revealing a Healthcare Secret: The Price” effectively explains the healthcare issue using simple examples that allow her audience to understand a complicated issue.

people get their hospital or doctor bills, they see the final amount, but it is not always clear what the details of the charges are. Rosenberg pointed out examples of these charges, such as $140 for a Tylenol and $1,000 for a toothbrush. It was great use of rhetoric with these figures because it shows the ridiculous pricing of these items that actually only cost a few dollars at any drug store but since hospitals basically have free range to charge pretty much whatever they want, they are able to get away with billing people outrageous amounts for everyday items. Rosenberg pointed this price issue out with the fact that one will not find people “combing through medical bills to spot the $1,000 toothbrush” (Rosenberg). For that price, I’m sure someone would not mind using some toothpaste and a washrag in order to avoid having that $1,000 tacked on to their bill.
