Arnet Hemingway is a famous American writer for works when applying Iceberg principle- "omission theory" into his works to help the readers feel the character's emotion by simple and natural things. This writing style is expressed perfectly in "Hills Like White Elephants" short story whose theme is about abortion. The writer proves his Iceberg theory very well in this story through using of unique styles including deliberate hiding and perfect symbolism.

the fact that the operation is an abortion one comes to the reader obviously through their dialogue when the man said: "it's really an awfully simple operation"," It's just to let the air in". Especially, there is no any words to describe the feelings of two characters when the man tries to pesuades the girl to receive a very simple abortion but the reader can see the couple's emotion with the subtext in their dialogue:

"But i don't want you to", he said " I don't care anything about it."

"I'll scream", the girl said.

Clearly,Hemingway employs omission style of iceberg theory to omit the words such as "obortion", "baby"... that makes the reader explore the hidden seven-eight facts through the only one-eight obvious fact. Specifically, the reader discovers argument about abortion between the couple through talking about operation.

In addition to deliberate omission, the beauty of symbolism is also a dazzling feature of "iceberg theory" used perfectly in this story. ...
