I Pledge Allegiance To The Flag...



We placed our hands over our hearts and held our eyes wide at the flag, in the corner, behind the teacher's desk at the start of everyday. This morning tradition will last though the last day of school, the day of graduation. Some of us would dance nervously as we said the tried words, some stood calm and still, others silently mouthed the promise, and even some sweaky voices to join our chorus. There were thirty or so of us, pledging allegiance to the Flag of the United Sates of America. And this flag we pledge to, it stands for freedom.

Victory as a nation over the English, the Spanish, and the Southerners who wanted to keep their slaves, the Axis who wanted to take over the world, and the Germans who were burning the Jews. Each time we fought we emerged victorious, each time the flag was still there -- a symbol of those who had fought for us, and those who had died doing so.
Now why after all of these reasons why would anyone, in no matter of what protest or belief, would choose to burn our flag... our memorial to those who died for our country's good? When I look at the flag and utter the Pledge of Allegiance every morning in homeroom, I place my hand over my heart and remember the men and women who died over in Vietnam and Korea. With those two wars in mind, I also think of every other war fought and who lost a family member fighting for our country's sake.
