The Impact of World War 2 on American Politics’ and Society

World War 2 impacted the United States in many ways, most importantly though were American politics and society. World War 2 helped bring America out of isolationism, become more involved in international affairs and decreased immigration. As for American society, the public felt more fear; racism became an even bigger issue and many Americans’ campaigned against immigration. Many significant changes took place in America during World War 2, but the most significant changes were to American politics and society.

in World War 2. Roosevelt began to campaign against and find ways around the Neutrality Acts of 1935-37. In 1939 Congress passed measures that allowed the sales of arms to warring nations on the same cash-and-carry basis that had been established under the Neutrality Acts. In 1940 Roosevelt devised a new program “lend-lease”. This program allowed the government not only to sell but also to lend or lease armaments to any nation vital to the defense of the United States. The lend-lease and other programs, along with the shifting public opinion, were the end of the United States neutrality in World War two.

During World War 2, the United States started to close down her boarders to immigration. Among those who wanted immigration to stop was Assistant Sectary of State Breckenridge Long.
