The first part of "Howl" is very descriptive not only in the scenario/situation the author wants us to envision, but also of the feelings the poet feels while the lines in Part I are being delivered/read. Part I started its lines with a feeling of sadness and disillusionment as the author describes to his readers the people whom he knew to possess the "best minds of the generation." The first lines also give us of the concept of 'madness' the author is consistently pointing out all throughout the poem, and true enough to the said theme, the authors words in the succeeding lines of the poem illustrates the madness, the insanity of the poet himself: "... yacketayakking screaming vomiting whispering facts and memories and anecdotes and eyeball kicks and shocks of hospitals and jails and wars..."
