Lesson one Posting Summary Sept 6 2012 -

I come from a very structured family system, and I believe it has its ups and downs, as do all the other family systems. My parents were very strict, but this made me a more respectful person. All of our activities were mostly done together which made us have a strong bond with each other. Looking back I have no regrets on how my parents raised me in a structured family. It makes me want to raise my children that way; since my children were the perfect role models.

is very difficult for me to speak assertively, because I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings or come across "mean". As I have grown older, I now understand its best to speak assertively and express your own opinion. I had to get into my later 20's to understand that speaking assertively is a happy medium for adults to voice opinion and still be able to have a logical conversation with another adult without having a fight. Speaking assertively is important to be able to stand up for what you believe, and saying no without the guilt that sometimes comes with. In the past, I have had problems with people who speak aggressively, because I always took it personal. In my early twenties, I was very sheltered and if someone did not believe in everything I did, then I thought of them as an enemy. As I have grown up, I have realized that everyone has the right to have their own opinion, and now some of my best friends are democrats, and I am a republican. I have grown to learn that ...
