I am writing to respectfully request your help in securing a visa for my parents to visit me.

I emigrated from Romania to the United States in 1999 on a diversity visa. Since that time, I have been fortunate to change my visa to permanent-resident status. I have adjusted to life in Illinois, become a productive citizen, working in the information technology field for COMPANY and begun to think of this state as home; however, I miss my parents terribly. The last time I returned to Romania was more than two years ago. Due to my commitments, I do not anticipate making the trip again during the next year. After six months, my mother applied for the visa alone, because my father had commitments that would keep him from visiting. To prove that she would not be an immigration risk, she presented legal documentation to support the fact that she and my father own a business that depends on her presence to be profitable. In addition, I sent an invitation and affidavit of support. Despite legal proof of my mother's ties to Romania, the embassy denied her request.

While I completely understand the law mentioned earlier. I do not understand the relevance of its application in my case. I do not understand what criterion would prove more strongly my parents' ties to their homeland than their interest in a business and the family members that they would leave behind.
