The first engagement between the British and the Americans happened on April 19, 1775 on the grassy fields of Massachusetts. Which came to be known as the "Shot heard round the world", is what began the fighting in the American Revolution at Lexington and Concord. Many people speculate or have a theory of who fired the first shot; some people blame the British because of biased beliefs and the British blame the Americans. The first shot fired at Lexington and Concord was by the British soldiers based on the Illustration of the Battle of Lexington and Concord, Edward Gould's Affidavit, and John Parker's Affidavit.

it seems that they invaded the town thus having fired first.
Another reason, I believe the British fired the first shot is based on Edward Gould's Affidavit. According to Gould "On our arrival at that place, we saw a Body of provincial Troops armed, to the Number of about sixty or seventy Men; on our Approach, they dispersed, and soon after firing began, but which party fired first, I cannot exactly say, as our Troops rush'd on shouting, and huzzaing, previous to the firing, which was continued by our Troops, so long as any of the provincials were to be seen." Then Gould goes on to say "We drew up on the Concord side [of] the Bridge, the provincials came down upon us, upon which we engaged and gave the first Fire..." What Gould said in his Affidavit makes me believe that if they fired first on the Concord fight they also fired first on the Lexington battle.
