Is the distinction between mala in se and mala prohibita offenses meaningful within the context of a modern multicultural and diverse society? Why?

In my opinion the distinction between mala in se and mala prohibita can be easily explained. In short, mala prohibita simply refers to ``bad because prohibited,'' or things that are prohibited but are not inherently evil. It can also be referred to a rule or law that forbids something from being done. Avoiding speed limits for the safety of other drivers would be an example of mala prohibita.

However, I can definitely understand why the distinctions of both offenses are often critisized and repulsed by citizens, not to mention law makers. Because many of the offenses on either side are considered to be ranked as a ``lower or greater'' violation, distinguishing what offenses requires the law or prosecution can still be considered unjust to many people. In today's society of various cultures and every day life, there are more emphasis on equality than focusing on what ideas are considered ``bad'' or ``offensive'' doings. Today there are diverse groups of people who have different ideas and beliefs of religion, sexual preference and personal politics.
