Migration In 1800's

Migration towards the west was expanding by the day in the 1800’s. White settlers were moving west of the Mississippi river and had the nation’s population increasing as a whole. There were many reasons for the westward expansion. Firstly the population in the East was increasing so people started moving to the west for more room. The American population practically doubled between 1800 and 1820. Much of the land in the East was already occupied by farmers causing even more farmers to move west for agricultural purposes. lack of labor in the West, this forced individuals to form relationships with their neighbors. As relationships formed they helped each other with the building and farming. Settlers in the west never stayed in one spot for long. They would build up their land and then sell it for profit and move to another location. The new areas that would open even more westward were always occupied by the settlers that had already been in the west.
