To teach me the difference between right and wrong, my parents used various types of punishment. A punishment is any painful or discomforting stimulus that reduces the frequency with which the behavior occurs. For example, I used to stay out past curfew frequently. To punish me, my parents would restrict me from going out with my friends.
It was these friends who provided me with a lot of my socialization. Peers are another agent of socialization because they provide relationships where all parties are on equal standing, unlike families.
