This quote was said by Alexander Solzhenitsyn and I believe that it means that many people have gone places, done a massive amount of activities, gone through good and bad times and accomplished our goals in life. Lennie, telling the reader about the beautiful grass, the sunshine and even goes into detail about Lennie biggest reverie, which is having a little spot for some rabbits so he can play and pet them.
Another great work of literature that portrays this quote is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In this piece Jay Gatsby, a bootlegger, restless, hopeful man is desperately trying to get the love of his life, name Daisy, back from another man. The only problem though that she is married to another man named Tom Buchanan who is cheating on her with another woman named Myrtle Wilson.
