“Jobs were scarce and people needed to provide for their families, gangsterism was dangerous but provided an easy way to make money.” (Nash, Tim) Many people suffered because of the pass of the 18th Amendment, known as Prohibition, which was outlawing the sale of alcohol. (Nash, Tim) Because of Prohibition, many people turned to Organized Crime as a way to better themselves, other things that happened because of Prohibition was that the crime and violence rates went up, there were many deaths that were alcohol related, people began to distrust the Government, and many gangs became more powerful.
