Personal Writing: Affectiveness In Communication



Observing the way a person communicates can allow a person to be
aware of their communication behavior. The person who I observerved was my
mother. She seemed to be aware of her effectiveness to communicate before
my observation. She also seemed to have an effective style about the way
she communicated.
My mother is a typical old fashion mother. She sometimes accuses
in situations rather than expressing her feelings. For example, when
something gets broke in the house she would always blame me for it. She
would never express the way that she really feels about the situation. On
the other hand, she is the inclusive type. She does take everything into
account after she accuses. My ...

confident about things. My mother also makes assumptions of other people
without adding all the fact. I also observed that she sometimes uses non-
verbal communication skills to substitute for verbal communication skills.
For example, when she is talking about something that is large in size; she
would open her arms wide to show what she is talking about.
Finally, my mother also uses other things to put emphasis on words.
I observed that she does this when she puts emphasis on words with non-
verbal messages. For example, when she tells my daughter to do something;
she would open her eyes wide and raise her eyebrows. When my mother talks
to people she never gets close to the person that is being spoken to. This
is an example of her using space an distance. I also observed that she has
a habits that she was not aware of. One habit that she is was not aware of
