I choose to interview a nurse that I work with who is 61 years old, her initials are JB. She takes a total of four prescribed medications from two different doctors and eight over the counter medications, vitamins and supplements for a daily total of twelve medications. She uses Wal-Mart as her main pharmacy as all but one prescribed medications is on the four dollar list.

Her medications are as follows: Pepcid (Famotidine) 20mg daily, Multivitamin with minerals one daily, Vitamin C 500mg daily, Citracal & Vitamen D daily, Aspirin 81mg daily, Fish Oil 1000mg daily, Glucosamine Chondroitin daily, Zestril ...

dollar list. Her Simvastatin is not on the list. She pays about $150.00 per month for this medication and will be speaking to the physician that prescribed it asking for a substitute on the four dollar list like Lovastatin (Wal-Mart $4 medication list, 2007). JB uses the medical flex account available to her from the hospital as a benefit to pay for her medications, “It keeps my taxes down as that money put aside is pretax” (J. B, personal communication, September 18, 2009).

JB feels that her medications are easy to use and states an understanding as to why she is taking them except for the Verapamil. JB had a heart attack 6 years ago and received two stents during an angiocath. The cardiologist choose to put her on Verapamil as a home medication because she had arrhythmia problems during the procedure and afterwards while still in the hospital.
