Poverty

According to dictionary.com, poverty is defined as the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor; indigence. I feel that poverty is a huge problem in the United States and will be until our economy is back to a better level. For people in poverty, they are doing what they can do to stay alive and survive. Among the industrialized nations, the United States is ranked lower than what many people assume; people assume we are ranked number one, but we are not. There is a huge gap in between the rich and the poor in the United States and the minority group is very poor when being to the white Americans.

The children that go to the place are very poor and have to there because their parents are working long hours or there is only one parent that can provide for the family, and to make ends meet, this is what has to be done. If they were not taken care of, by the volunteers, after school, then the children would either be home alone or out on the streets getting into trouble, which is what used to happen before this was available.
In this town, one can see that they are poverty stricken and that most of them see the “American Dream” fading away. With all of the growing poverty rates in the United States, it is becoming harder and harder for people to find jobs or even survive. Most children and their families that attend this program are most likely under the poverty line or right at it.
