Prejudice in To Kill A Mockingbird

Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races, as if it was seeing somebody as a distant stranger. Let's change the way we treat each other. This shows how prejudice people can hate a race so much, but in the end it's not worth it at all. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch shows the whole town of Maycomb just this. Atticus is a widowed man, with two kids; Scout and Jem. Scout and Jem have many adventures, most of which involve investigating the old Radley Place where the so-called “bad” Boo Radley lives. In some ways, the way the characters act towards others is good. Just as when Atticus decides to help with the Tom Robinson trial. “This case, Tom Robinson's case, is something that goes to the essence of a man's conscience—Scout, I couldn't go to church and worship God if I didn't try help that man.” (104) Atticus is helpful to Tom because he believes everyone should be treated. Atticus wants the town of Maycomb to change their views of black people and just begin to accept them. But some people are not willing to change, like Bob Ewell. “He stood up and pointed his finger at Tom Robinson. '–I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin' on my Mayella!'” (173) Even in a courtroom, Bob Ewell does not use Tom Robinson's name. Mr. Ewell uses profanity to describe Tom, even in front of a jury.
