Privacy is one of the most personal aspects someone can hold onto in their own life. The ability to keep something to yourself and not have anyone else know is the only sacred quality humans have in life. We can keep our own secrets just as easily as we can slip and tell everyone something significant in our lives. Gay's writing she talks mostly about the little privacy the public demands from prominent figures. In this day and age we expect information from people who share their lives with the world and the only reason they do it is because most of the time they feel pressured. Public figures feel they need to share their story with everyone for the sole purpose of satisfying their fan base. We feel entitled to label everyone into a category and we force people to come out with their sexuality against their own will just so we feel pleased with the information we obtained for the day. The idea of someone with fame having to share their whole lives with the world is not the responsibility they should have to hold.
