Effective leaders come in a variety of packages and rise to the occasion at various times, but they share several qualities in common, including courage, decisiveness, humor, patience, and empathy: these can be distilled into three main traits: confidence, flexibility, and compassion.
Confidence is one of the absolutely essential traits of an effective leader. Without confidence, one couldn't muster the courage to stand up and speak in front of others, let alone make decisions. Confidence is an ironically delicate quality that hovers between believing in oneself and acknowledging that being wrong is possible.
