Social inequality is a problem that demands the full attention of society because it can affect us all at any time for any number of reasons. “Inequality is present and affects us at all stages of our lives.” (Hurst, Ch. 1, pg. 1). It is a problem we cannot ignore. Too many people are affected by it every single day. “Individuals are affected more or less by them because of their economic position, ethnicity, race and gender.” (Hurst, Ch1, pg. 1). Being that this is such a diverse country, many people are affected by these factors alone.

inequality that would be acceptable to me would be based on the type of work a person does and the risks that are involved. For example, I would be okay with making less than a police officer. I would be okay with that because the risk of there occupation and danger is greater than mine, being a sales associate. They are risking their lives to protect mine, yes by there own free will, but someone has to protect us and do the job. So being that few choose the field of law enforcement, those who do and get paid more than me I would not have a problem with. The type of inequality that is unacceptable to me is the inequality of incomes. CEO’s getting paid millions of dollars a year, protected by their fancy buildings and contracts while there are soldiers risking their lives everyday getting paid a significant amount less.
