The day after day parties Jay Gatsby throws shows the corruption the American Dream as the desire for money and materialistic pleasures, overthrowing the true meaning of the American Dream. The idea of the original American Dream is about moral values and the pursuit of happiness. It is written in the American Constitution that every individual has the right to “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” However during the 1920’s it seemed as if this statement had slightly been altered from the pursuit of happiness to the pursuit of wealth and greed. The Stock Market Crash destroyed the American Dream, altering it forever.
