I feel like I have spent most of my life being a stranger in a strange land. I grew up always having a place to live but never having an actual home. People give words a deeper meaning. The word “home” will always carry a deeper meaning to me. Home is a place one can count on no matter what. It’s a place that will never reject you or judge you. It’s a place where one can go to free their mind and feel at peace. Home is where you can be yourself to the fullest extent. When I say I never had an actual home, I mean that I was always afraid we were going to move somewhere again. I quickly got used to living in Moscow and had no trouble acquiring their culture, as did the rest of my family. Soon I found myself having the great life every kid dreams of. I had a great school, I had great friends, and I had a strong family. I went to a public Jewish school that had about 500 students. We were not required to wear uniforms since it wasn’t a private school which was a plus in my opinion. In addition to the required curriculum we learned the Jewish traditions, Jewish history and the Hebrew language. It was a small building where everyone knew each other. It was almost like we were family regardless of our DNA’s. Though today I would completely disagree with most of the things I was taught in that school, being an atheist, I must admit that having gone to that school and learned the moral lessons they tried to teach us in their own way, it had made me a wiser person.
