By Brianna Pickering
September 12, 2012

Question/Purpose

To assess the biodiversity of two different ecosystems by collecting qualitative and quantitative data about the biotic and abiotic factors that exist in them. The two ecosystems in which the biodiversity will be assessed are the DVCI soccer field and Sparling Bush. The independent variables that will be examined are temperature, moisture, amount of light, and soil. The dependent variable in this inquiry is the level of biodiversity.

Hypothesis

If the temperature is higher, than it will have more of an impact on the level of biodiversity and make it lower. I think this because ...

have a better chance of surviving. The more moisture and water, the better. Plants and animals need water to live or they’ll die. I think there will be more moisture in Sparling Bush since it’s cooler and covered by trees meaning there will be more wildlife and living things.

If there is more light, than the level of biodiversity would be lower because most animals and plants can’t survive without shade. If there is too much sunlight, that could make the plants and animals die. I think there would be more wildlife in Sparling bush seeing as there’s lots of trees making it hard for sunlight to get through.

If the soil is more wet, than the level of biodiversity would be higher because the bugs, insects and plants can’t survive if it’s too dry. They need the soil to be soft and damp. I think the soil would be more wet in Sparling bush and not the soccer field because since Sparling bush is covered by trees and not in the open like the soccer ...
