Plymouth Colony, founded around 1620, was the first of the New England settlements. The Colony was settled by a group of individuals considered to be enemies to the Church of England. These enemies were the Puritans. Under the rule of Queen Elizabeth, the Puritans thought that she did not succeed in ridding Catholic practices in the Church of England. Elizabeth and rulers to follow tried to silence the Puritans.
The Puritans believed that an all-powerful God had determined which humans would be saved and damned at the time of birth. They believed that salvation came from faith only. They implored followers to pursue a personal relationship with god. The main reason of there ...

The Puritans did not like other religions. They were very strict in there religious beliefs. Those who wanted to be a member of the government had to be a member of the Puritan religion. And that included the right to vote. You had to be male, own property, and part of the Puritan religion. The Puritans considered religious desinners and people who disagreed with them a threat. Religious beliefs were strictly enforced. Desinners such as Thomas Hooker and Roger Willams were forced to leave and form colonies of there own. Hooker started Hartford and Willams started Providence.
Some of the actions took by Puritans could be considered hypocritical. Roger Willams, one of the desinners, believed that the Puritans stole the land from the Indians. Breaking one of the Ten commandments. He thought that the Puritans should give the land back to the Indians and would eventually by the land from the Indians at a future date when funds became available. ...
