Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem Massachusetts on July 4 of 1804, during the presidential period of Thomas Jefferson, and died on May 19 of 1864. The state of Massachusetts was founded by the English radical puritans, The Pilgrim Fathers, that arrived to the British colonies in North America in 1620 in the famous May flower. We can see how Hawthorne presents in his short story "Young Goodman Brown" a connection between his disapproval for his ancestor's puritan ideologies and actions that were extremely rigid and problematic. ...
