The Azores Islands


The Azores are a chain of Portuguese islands formed from volcanic activity, located right in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, between Europe and North America. There are nine islands; Santa Maria, Sao Miguel, Terceria, Graciosa, Sao Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores, and Corvo. These nine islands have a total surface area of 2,333 km. The highest point of the entire island can be found on Pico at 2,351 ft. These nine islands have a combined total population of 237,795. The Azores is a chain of beautiful Portuguese tropical islands filled with different kinds of agriculture, landmarks, and unique landscapes. (colliers encyclopedia p257)
