In his essay, The Banking Concept of Education, author Paulo Freire states that, “Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world and with each other”. for a whole class period. Then in the second period, there would a list of vocabulary she would go through, which would be assigned for memorization. This was how she would fill her container of students with information.
She rarely asked us to think for ourselves and express our thoughts into our own words. It was as if we were toddlers being spoon-fed with “nutrients” essential for our knowledge. Her way of teaching appeared to be more fit for third graders than her batch of inquisitive 7th grade students. There was also a lack of interaction within the students. Students began to doubt her teaching abilities simply because all she did was put knowledge into the heads of her students without reassuring them that those knowledgeable facts would be beneficial.
