The Industrialization of the US

In the late 19th Century, industrialization changed the way of American life. The idea of the virtue system had been replaced with manufacturing and bureaucratic management. The first signs of this were in the railroad industry. Many left their more prairie style of life in search of more capital gains. The first of these jobs were railroad workers. Due to the vastly growing network of railroads, more people had to be employed to construct them. However, many of these workers were underpaid and treated poorly leading to the beginning of the labor movement.

for companies but not by choice. The old way of life was being shoved aside to make room for the new industrialized America. This then lead way to corporate greed and the emergence of robber barons. These robber barons were defined as individuals making very large amounts of money through questionable means. The two most notable Robber Barons were John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. These men and others like them transformed and revolutionized the economy of the United States. Robber Barons were present in all forms of big business ranging from banking to steel production causing inequity to form. With the top 10% owning 70% of the wealth, workers grew resentful.

However, the emergence of Robber Barons coincided with the gain of the popularity of Charles Darwin's natural selection.
