The media takes a lot of criticism from the public because the public accuses it of sensationalism. But the media is a business just like any other business and it covers the events and causes that are important to the public and that the public wants to hear about. The public agenda creates the interest to turn into the news show, or read the newspaper to find out more about what is going on in areas of public interest. The media takes its cue from the public and covers the events and elements that interest the public. This is obvious when it comes to things such as the war in Iraq or brutally murdered children but it is also obvious in the less sensational events and elements such as sports. Sports take a lot of the media's time and interest but the teams and events that are being covered are the ones that the public has an interest in.
