Tokugawa Government, Economy and Military

The first recorded appearance of Tokugawa government was with the first shogun, Ieyasu, who ruled from 1542-1616. First emerging during the Warring States of 1467-1590, the Tokugawa Political Settlement centralized political authority, created the imperial court, and established military government. The previous government, known as the shogunate lost its effectiveness.
Part of the Tokugawa method was to pass the authority to local overseers, which established a system known as the daimyo. The daimyo territories were called territories, which were controlled by the powerful system; each territory commanding thousands of warrior.

him, his power was unlimited. His egotism was shown in the unsuccessful attempts to capture Korea and China. Hideyoshi also couldn’t produce an heir, when he died in 1597; he only had one infant son. Before his death, he entrusted his son to five allies, assigned to protect the heir, and ensure the Toyotomi clan’s future, one of the allies Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The Shogunate and daimyo governed somewhat peacefully, the demands were specific, allowing the daimyo privileges. The daimyo were never directly taxed, instead, the shoguns exercised indirect levy, requiring the daimyo to pay for their fees in manual labor, food, raw materials, and construction. They forced all daimyo to commute between the capitals of Tokyo, which was then called Edo, and home. All the women stayed in Edo, limiting the daimyo. They also had to request for marriage, and while they seemed restrained, the Daimyo were free to govern their domain as seen fit.
