The United States has been through many wars, and it has had many disagreements with Mexico, even today. It isn’t flabbergasting that the U.S went into war with Mexico, since they both have their distinctions. Mexico won its independence from Spain in the 19th century, and Spain controlled most of Central America. Due to the extremely low population for the amount of land they had, Mexico relaxed its immigration policies, allowing American settlers to help populate the northern territories. the war, such as manifest destiny. After Mexico gained independence from Spain they could not afford California, so how could they afford Texas? Unlike Mexico, the U.S was overpopulated which needed the land. Not only would it be a benefit to America but it would be a benefit to Mexico. The war would help America spread democracy and "civilized" values into western lands. It would be good for the people in those areas. Also, if one did believe God had a plan for America, then war with Mexico was simply following through on God's wishes. Finally, if one believes in survival of the fittest among nations, then it might be seen as inevitable that the US would eventually control land to the Pacific, “Other nations have undertaken … hostile interference against us, … hampering our power, limiting our greatness and checking the fulfillment of our manifest destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence [God] for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions.'' ...
