Introduction

Deemed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Mosi-oa-tunya is what the natives of southern Africa call The Victoria Falls. The word means "smoke that thunders", named for the deafening spray of clouds that are created as the water falls from 122 meters. Victoria Falls is twice as large and twice as wide as Niagara Falls in North America. Discovered by the explorer David Livingstone on November 17th, 1855, the falls are located in south central Africa on the border of Zambia, formerly known as Northern Rhodesia and Zimbabwe, and formerly known as Southern Rhodesia. my in depth study of the falls I hoped to learn more of their origin, how greatly they have benefited the areas along the Zambezi river and locals on both the Zambian and Zimbabwean side of the border. I also hoped to learn more of the tourist attractions people flock to see every year.

The articles I came across were helpful to a certain extent. However some are written from a Canadian point of view by authors who may never have visited the falls but are merely commenting on what they have come across in a form of a picture for example. Although this was a limitation it didn't stop me finding out more information I did not know about.

This Research paper enabled me to learn that there is more to Victoria Falls than just the white water rafting, safaris, bungee jumping and helicopter tours. Many of the locals benefit greatly from the tourists flocking it by;

* Selling handmade artifacts such as jewelry and wood carvings of animals.

* Some locals have bed and breakfast ...
