The impairment I received to do my disability awareness activity was a . To simulate this disability, so that I could get a deeper understanding of the handicaps that follow, I wore a pair of safety glasses that were covered in vaseline for two days. During these two days I tried to go on with my normal activities of daily living.

Within the first ten minutes of having the glasses on I felt sad. I already missed seeing my surroundings with unimpaired vision. There is nothing to interesting to look at in our exercise room but I actually missed reading the same old posters that I read over and over almost unconsciously. One poster says, “Stone Cold 3:16,” with a picture of Steve Austin in a wrestling rink, and the other is a brunette in a skimpy red bikini. I actually missed seeing both of these, although not as much as one of my dogs who I heard come into the room, but could only see a moving dark image. I could tell it was Axle because he is much smaller and more energetic than Duel; who is thirty pounds over weight, at 130 pounds, and three years older. I usually only have to look at Axle’s adorable face and I get a warm feeling.
