Although he’s gone, I feel like I know him so well, like he’s the one here with us telling the stories. The most memorable thing about him is that his favorite bird is the red cardinal. He adored these birds. When he was a pilot in the Air Force, he would look for these birds because it gave him strength, bravery, courage and hope that he would come home. He told my Grandma that it was the only bird he ever saw. That it had such beauty and elegance. He said ‘One look at a Cardinal and your world is saved’. I asked my Grandma what he meant by that. She said whenever you’re in need of something, you look at a Cardinal and it gives you what you need; that little boost that could change your whole day.
Hearing this story changed my whole life. My Grandpa is such an influence on my life. I feel like I have to impress him all the time, to be right and just in all actions and mostly just make him a proud grandfather. So oddly enough right after I heard this story, I ...
