Life Teaches You Lessons

I have a very big family in most people’s eyes. I am the oldest of 7 children, and we have 5 girls and 2 boys. We do have a handful on our own, but when I was in 5th grade we adopted a girl named Libby who is a few years older than me. My parents and most of my siblings were very happy about this addition to our family, but I quickly began to hate it.
Libby was our family’s babysitter for about 5 years prior to this, and she had lived on the end of our street with her parents. She has one older brother who was already moved out and living in Oregon at this point in time. One day, her dad was working on the garage door and her mom walked in and was hit in the head by a piece of the door ...

my family; it made me have a very bossy personality. When Libby moved in I felt like she was replacing me in a way and that she was trying to take over. We would constantly fight over everything; who left the bathroom door locked, who was the boss when my parents went out, and even who got to use the phone. My other siblings weren’t quite as offended by her impact on our family, but I was scared that she was replacing my position as “the oldest” in a sense. On top of fighting, I eavesdropped a lot to her conversations on the phone and heard the many arguments she had with her boyfriend; the tears, the screaming.
At one point this got so bad that I went and cried to my parents late at night that I wanted them to make her leave and that I hated her, well I soon realized that that was definitely not what I wanted.
After a year of being with us, she decided that she wanted to get away from her past and everything that happened, so she moved away to Colorado. I will never forget ...
