In 1914 one of the biggest wars ever fought started. This was is known as World War 1. At the time it began people thought it could only last a few months at the most. No one could fathom the idea of the war lasting a long time for they thought no one had enough resources and money to support a long war.
At the beginning of the war the United States, under the influence of president Wilson, had decided to stay out of the war. Wilson thought it was right choice for America because they could be an ally to both sides. Everything changed when the Lusitania was sunk. After World War 1 ended president Wilson thought he had come up with the perfect solution “Fourteen Points”. The first four points were open diplomacy, freedom of seas, removal of trade barriers, and the reduction of military arms. President Wilson’s 14 points did not pass but a very important thing did happen the league of nations.! This united many powerful nations and got them to work on preventing another war like World War 1. Also the treaty of Versailles passed. Although it was a lot harsher than president Wilson wanted it was the only thing people could agree on.
