World War I Propaganda


The United States used propaganda to control what people thought and to create positive feelings towards World War I. The newspaper was used to release information that had sometimes been altered to glorify the war. Music and motion pictures were used to try to help the people understand why America was in the war and what was going on overseas. The Committee on Public Information was formed to educate the Americans about the war. Leaflets were distributed by planes over the German trenches causing them to loose morale and hope. All of these things were used to educate and sometimes mislead the people it reached.

prank and blew it off. Another thing that almost all of the newspapers said was that this was the war to end all wars. This led the American people to believe that this was for a good cause and it would be well worth the effort and losses.
Music and the motion pictures were used to not only entertain the American people but were also used to educate and help form their opinion. Motion pictures were used to unify the peoples opinion against the Germans and other enemies2. In a short film produced be the Committee of Public Information an American dressed up as a German Kaiser was showed trying to abduct an actress dressed up as the Statue of Liberty. Just the way the Kaiser acted brought about a sense of evil in him. This made everyone who saw the film think that all Germans were evil and that was just what the producer wanted.
