Have you ever wondered what impact video games have on our youth today? Video games were invented in the 1970�s and by the end of the decade had become the ideal choice of entertainment for children between the ages of 12 and 17. Even back then most adults were concerned that video games would have an ill effect on their children�s development, because it has been proven that excessive use of violent video games can negatively affect youth, it is necessary for parents to monitor and mitigate overuse, thereby preventing problem behaviors before they can begin.

to be that most children weren�t so intrigued by these video games until around the age of ten or 11 years old, but now with the updated graphics and opportunity to transform themselves into a virtual existence, children are beginning to play video games starting at the age of 4 or 5. The majority of the games on the market today are appropriate for these youngsters to play, and actually have certain benefits when it comes to problem solving, logic, and strategizing, however there are the games that are geared more for teenagers that are quite disturbing. These games are full of violence, hatred and are forming anti social behavior among our older teens, basically from the ages of twelve to eighteen. Back in the seventies and eighties, children averaged about one to two hours of game play at one time.

a very valid point. Children today lack the exercise that is crucial to their development. One would believe that kids today, spend way too much time playing video games. It is unfortunate that children at much younger ages are being exposed to such horrid behavior, such as blood and gore, rape, murder, gambling, and many other violent occurrences. One would think that these video game developers would take some kind of responsibility for what has happened to our youth today as a result of the violent video games these children are playing.
