Throughout history, the American system of government has been regarded as one of the best in the world. In America everyone lives like a king. The government is fair and does not get involved where it should not be. Finally, the government regulates itself so it does not become too big and overpowering. However, this world view of America is not true today. In fact, the current federal system of government in the United States is failing to meet its social contract obligations to the American people.

Important bills that our government has been arguing over for years such as health care have still not been resolved. Although the government has checks and balances, they do not seem to be working. The Congress is often times very inefficient and many believe that the president vetoes important laws that could greatly help the American people.
Finally, the government fails to meet its social contract with taxation and distribution of wealth. In America today, the majority of people are poor and 90% of the wealth is owned by 5% of the people. Never before has the distribution of wealth in America been so unbalanced. In order for the government to meet its obligations to the American people, it must figure out a way to make people more equal.
