Have you ever stopped and watched Amish children at play? Wondered how they survive in a world with so much technology and are able to keep their "primitive ways"? Once you get past those thoughts, have you wondered about their health? Probably like most people, you think nothing about the Amish population unless you are stuck behind their slow moving horse drawn buggies tapping impatiently on your steering wheel because you are in a hurry and cannot get past them.

I began working with a naturopathic physician in an attempt to broaden my knowledge base and realized that many members of the Amish community practiced either "self-healing" or would come to see the Naturopath in an attempt to obtain a natural approach to health care promotion and prevention.

Per www.amishamerica.com [HYPERLINK: http://www.amishamerica.com] there are over 60,000 Amish in the state of Ohio, with an average of seven children per married couple, with 54 settlements and over 500 church districts. Unfortunately I could not find a breakdown of how many resided in Hocking County where I reside but I did drive through my community and was able to identify 30 Amish homes based on the presence of either an Amish family member in the yard or buggies parked next to the house or barn.
