There is a fine line between having and moving toward high expectations or taking radical, most likely unreasonable, steps by going under the knife to improve a woman’s looks to transform herself into a glamour queen for a price. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, between 1990 and 1999 the number of several popular cosmetic surgeries such as liposuctions, breast enlargement operations and face lifts are booming. The number of liposuctions had increased from 71,600 to almost 600,000. Breast enlargement operations increased six times, from almost 42,000 to more than 255,000 a year while face lifts ...

Cosmetic surgeries carry a high degree of risk, sometimes can cost one’s life. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, five patients did not survive undergoing liposuctions. Although the doctors could not say for sure that liposuctions caused the deaths, they strongly suspected the procedure contributed to them. There are more women who have come forward with complaints of medical malpractice and abuse. One woman’s story was published in Cosmopolitan magazine in September 1999. She went for a breast enhancement to go back to her 34C and came out with much bigger breasts. Her plastic surgeon was later convicted and served time in prison due to abusive operations. This kind of story should become a matter of serious public concern.
