The Children’s Blizzard by David Laskin is an intense story of hardships and the rough life on the American frontier. This book describes the pioneers’ journey to the prairie in search of a new life and a bountiful, rich new beginning. quickly so many of them headed west in search of these great rumors. Traveling there was tough though. Many traveled to their destination by wagon or train. The trains do not move very quickly and are stopped very easily when there are build ups of snow on the track. When the European travelers arrived at their destination, the families settled down, built a home, and began to plant crops. In certain parts of North America, stations were set up by the Army Signal Corps. They determined the weather (or at least tried to) by using low-tech instruments and by relaying weather production back and forth in between the various stations. Unfortunately, these low-tech predictions never helped those vulnerable to the weather on the frontier. When one weather prediction goes wrong, the whole region is devastated.
In addition to the blizzard in January, another storm hit the northeastern region with a striking blow in March. This blizzard struck from Chesapeake Bay all the way to Maine. ...
