Concrete Jungle

I am a New Yorker, born and bred and I love that fact even though it can be a blessing as well a curse. A blessing because I come from one of the most famous, prolific and diverse cities on the planet and a curse because it is hard to fight the feeling of missing this city I call home. Today is it very cold, almost arctic-like, but this does not stop true New Yorkers from doing what must be done. Shopping, working or going to the theater: the hustle and bustle of the people is constant. These boroughs (cities) are something like independent countries that have borders and believe it or not, most people raised in one of these ‘countries’ often never step foot into another unless it is absolutely necessary (i.e. work, meeting, etc.). It is like an unwritten passage in the New Yorker handbook because most homegrown New Yorkers are loyal to their borough. I hail from the borough of Brooklyn and I can attest to the fact that when I was growing up, I rarely stepped foot outside of Brooklyn or even my neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant.
